This publication is written and illustrated entirely by me () without the assistance of generative artificial intelligence.
That means I don’t use GenAI for drafting or outlining purposes. I don’t use it for titles or headings. I don’t use it for brainstorming. I don’t use it for research. I don’t use it for editing. And I especially don’t use it for wholesale composition. I do quote examples of text generated by ChatGPT to make a point on occasion, but those examples are always clearly labelled as GenAI and are never presented as my own work.
This is my personal policy because: (1) large language models were trained on human labour without our permission or consent; (2) offloading the creative process to LLMs is disrespectful to readers; (3) LLMs threaten human livelihoods, and I want no part in that — even as a hobbyist; (4) I have no desire to add any more strain to one of the earth’s most precious resources (potable water) than is strictly necessary; and (5) it’s simply bad writing.
We all deserve better from this platform and from the internet in general. Please think of this guarantee as my reminder to you as fellow readers and creatives that we have much more power than the tech broligarchs think we do. We don’t have to consume AI-generated content if we don’t want to.
